Are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings"

"The Story of Christmas"

Dear Parents,

Welcome back! I hope your times with family and friends were blessed. Our "Thanksgiving" week was a lot of fun. We did crafts, heard stories and learned songs about Thanksgiving. The children even provided inspiration for a song which they were able to perform at the celebration. It was a busy, fun-filled week!

In math we worked on number placement, reviewed counting money, fractions using halves and the A.M., P.M. concepts. This week we will continue to work on these concepts. We will also be introducing the concept of temperature. This should be a new and exciting concept, especially with all of the weather fluctuations we have been having!

In phonics we worked more with the concept of roots and suffixes, focusing on the suffixes "ing" and "s." This week we will work with more suffixes. We will continue in our reading groups this week. We have started our newest reader, and the children have also been doing some more assigned independent reading along with their silent reading of choice. I have also started assessing the children once a week on their oral reading skills, in order to track their progress more accurately.

In Bible, we learned more about helping others through the story of Ruth and Naomi. This week, as our topic is "The Christmas Story," we will be focusing on the birth of Jesus. It is important as we kick off December, to remember the reason for all the celebrations this month.

This week's share is "The Christmas story."

Next week's share will be…"Christmas Traditions."

We had two wonderful presentations this week. Elizabeth was our star of the week. We had a lot of fun getting to know her better. Her beautiful poster will be on display all week. Christian gave a science presentation about water tension. It was really fun to count how many drops of water he could fit onto a penny. Thanks Christian and Elizabeth!

Congratulations to our spelling bee winners. Our first place winner was A. R. and our alternate was Joseph Lee. Great job guys!!

A special thanks to all of our parents who helped out to make the feast a success. It truly was! All of your hard work and donations really paid off. It was a day to be thankful for!
